“I’m Not a Buddhist, But…”
A Scorpio Full Moon Reflection on Holding on & Letting Go
People remark that I often say, “I’m not a Bu
ddhist, but…” — and then reference something quintessentially Buddhist. To me, Buddhism is not a religion or even philosophy – its psychology. Study of the mind or shall we remember that psyche means soul? Contemplative people in the East refined understanding of the mind thousands of years ago. We in the West are now catching up, categorizing psychological functions, deeming it is a modern invention.
So! Taurus Sun and Full Moon in Scorpio on Monday – the sky itself seems to be highlighting core Buddhist teachings: suffering is inevitable and suffering arises from attachment.
This cosmic moment is associated with Wesak, the celebration of the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death. Whether or not one holds to that specific tradition, the archetypal resonance is impossible to ignore. Noticed any suffering on earth recently? Often or even always – and especially now?
Taurus and Scorpio — the zodiacal axis activated at this Full Moon — are where the drama of attachment and release plays out. This polarity is big in my stellar seed plan (aka natal horoscope) and perhaps you resonate deeply with it as well.
Taurus Sun– embodied by its part/planet Venus – whispers:
Hold on to what soothes you. Touch, taste, own, preserve. This is your ground, your safety, your beauty. Grasp comfort.
Scorpio Moon– embodied by its part/planet Pluto – counters by growling:
Let go. Surrender. Die to what you thought you needed. Embrace discomfort even suffering. Descent is the path to power.
It’s not a war — it’s a dance. We need both parties to somehow get along. This Full Moon throws a spotlight on the tension between the part of us that wants to cling and the part that is aching to shed.
Some of you may feel this polarity as an internal tug-of-war. Perhaps a part of you wants to finally soften, to take refuge in comfort, routine, or even pleasure. And another part — perhaps deeper and darker — is whispering that it’s time to break the pattern. To feel what hurts. To let what no longer fits, fall away and become compost.
It’s no wonder the Buddha became obsessed with the nature of craving. It’s not just that he was born under a Taurus Sun :-). It’s where the down to earth human and the delving deeper into subconscious realms meet.
And maybe that’s the invitation of this Scorpio Full Moon. To question:
Which parts of you are grasping right now — and why ? What do they really need?
Which parts are ready to release — and what might they need to feel safe enough to do so?
Can you rest in your greater Self which can hold all these parts with the deepest care and compassion?
You don’t need to answer with your mind. The Moon will travel through Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces and Aries as we move from Full to DarkMoon in Taurus. Each archetypal sign offers a distinct emotional tone and gateway to explore these questions in your body and soul.
If you’re ready to engage more, I’ve created a free Full Moon Guide that follows this lunar path, inviting you listen to the parts within you that are seeking acceptance and integration — not perfection. Think of it as a companion for the two weeks ahead, whether you’re leaning towards the Taurus comfort zone or Scorpio shadow scene.
It is simply amazing what living in greater alignment with the lunar energies can do for your stress situation – and your greater harmony.

In the end, I’m still not a Buddhist.
But I am a lover of the Moon.
And I trust what she illuminates.
